Menzies works at the frontline, joining with partners across the Asia-Pacific as well as Indigenous communities across northern and central Australia.About the position:The incidence of type 2 diabetes among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people is increasing at a rapid rate across Australia. Global reports suggest that the pathophysiology, prognosis, complications and treatment response for youth-onset diabetes differ significantly from diabetes acquired later in life and necessitate a different health service response. Healthy lifestyle behaviours and self-management are critical to the control of type 2 diabetes, however strategies to achieve this are currently less effective in children and young people than in adults. There is an urgent need to understand the diabetes stories and prevalence of type 2 diabetes in young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, to improve models of care and educational strategies.This position will lead and coordinate the activities required to meet the aims of the Northern Australian Youth Type 2 Diabetes Collaboration project across all sites.The Project Manager will:Supervising all project staff across the four regions.Conducting day-to-day administrative management of the project.Effective communication with a range of stakeholders, study participants, Investigators and other members of the team.Coordination of the design and supervision of the implementation of models of care for young people with type 2 diabetes.Maintenance and nurturing of existing relationships as well as the development of new working relationships with community stakeholders in potential or established study sites.Coordination and attendance at regular project and research meetings.Generation of reports to funders and governing bodies in accordance with ethical, cultural and confidentiality requirements.Undertake procedures relevant to the research including; obtaining informed consent, data collection and storage as well as management of information related to the study design.Development, maintenance and updating of the research project’s standard operating procedures and essential documents.Drive the design and development of innovative and appropriate resources for both health professionals and young people using formative findings and consulting with the youth Indigenous Reference Group.Facilitation of workshops and other engagement activities with both health professionals and young people. Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and publications as required by the Chief Investigators.Regular remote travel for project support and community engagement.The successful applicant will have:Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field (Public Health, Social Science) with at least 3-5 years relevant work experience.Experience working in the Northern Australian context.Extensive project management experience in a remote context, including managing staff.Demonstrated initiative, excellent problem-solving skills, conflict resolution and strong record keeping skills along with the ability to maintain good organizational and time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.Proven ability to maintain confidentiality of personal information.Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as part of team.Demonstrated ability to engage and maintain relationships across both community and professionals - individuals and groups, including young people. Highly developed written and oral communication skills with experience in writing high level reports and an ability to communicate and interact effectively with people from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.Demonstrated experience with computer software applications including Microsoft Office Suite (in particular Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook).Willingness and ability to travel to remote communities in the NT and possibly interstate on a roughly monthly basis by 4x4, plane or light aircraft.The ability to maintain a current Australian driver’s license as well as Working with Children Clearances. Contact: Dr Renae Kirkham on 08 8946 8693 or renae.kirkham@menzies.edu.au  What we offer:6 weeks annual leaveOption to increase super to 14%Attractive salary package and benefits $124,334 - $134,898 salary package (comprising gross salary $98,552 - $107,331 pa, pro-rata, superannuation and salary packaging benefits.Closing date:  1 December 2019 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to applyApplicants are required to address the selection criteria. For information on how to apply for this position and to obtain the Position Description and Selection Criteria please visit http://careers.menzies.edu.au/ or phone 08 8946 8626.   PD_Project Manager AUD Darwin
