Menzies works at the frontline, joining with partners across the Asia-Pacific as well as Indigenous communities across Northern and Central Australia.About the position:This position is part of a leading research program committed to improving cancer outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities. The cancer research program is an Indigenous-led and multidisciplinary program that has established a strong foundation of new knowledge about, and means to improve, the wellbeing, clinical care and outcomes for Indigenous Australians with cancer. The program has received major funding from the NHMRC including, a Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) Grant (2019-2023) and an Investigator Grant (2020-2025), in addition to multiple project and partnership grants.The Senior Research Fellow / Principal Research Fellow will bring their own research track record and experience to add a unique contribution to the cancer research program. In addition to building their own area of research, the candidate may also contribute to the existing research program investigating areas such as implementation of Optimal Care Pathways, health behaviours of cancer patients, effectiveness of patient navigation, and in a broad range of other related areas. The candidate is expected to make major original contributions to the design of new research, preparation of funding submissions to a variety of external bodies, and building the program’s output of scholarly publications.The position is based in the Cancer Research Group, Well-being & Preventable Chronic Diseases Division at the Menzies School of Health Research’s Brisbane Office.The Senior Research Fellow or Principal Research Fellow will:Create an independent and original contribution towards the program by developing and leading projects that are focussed on improving cancer outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.Provide high level support to the Senior Principal Research Fellow to achieve the goals and outcomes of the cancer research program, including identifying new research priorities, strategic opportunities, and funding sources to support and build the program.Lead, and contribute to, developing new priorities and strategic research directions including the submission of grant proposals.Design and conduct collaborative and independent research, data analysis and synthesis.Produce/contribute to written and oral reports for a variety of key stakeholders, audiences, and settings.Lead and coordinate research activities and manage projects to ensure required outputs and contractual timelines are met.Engage with government and non-government policy-makers and funding bodies to create opportunities for funded research and research translation to promote the program of research.Maintain and develop positive relationships and respectful engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and key stakeholder organisations such as health service providers.Supervise or co-supervise more junior team members, including higher degree research students.The successful applicant will have:A PhD in psychology, health services, epidemiology or a public health related field.Post-doctoral experience in research which demonstrates a strong track record relative to opportunity, including a record of research publications.Highly-developed skills in academic research and research project management skills.Successful track record in securing competitive research funding in Australia and/or internationally and leading research projects.Demonstrated ability to think analytically and critically.A strong commitment to research and improving outcomes in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing.Proven ability to lead, manage, mentor, and develop staff and studentsHigh-level written and oral communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to establish cooperative and productive working relationships with a range of stakeholders.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to use judgment, and take initiative with minimal direction.The ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.Contact: Dr Bronwyn Morris on 07 3169 4214 or bronwyn.morris@menzies.edu.auWhat we offer:6 weeks annual leaveOption to increase super to 14%Attractive salary package and benefits $143,114 - $183,665 pa salary package (comprising gross salary $114,540 - $149,393 pa, superannuation and salary packaging benefits.Closing date: Sunday, 13 September 2020 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.For information on how to apply for this position and to obtain the Position Description and Selection Criteria please visit www.menzies.edu.au/careers or phone 08 8946 8626.   PD_Senior Research Fellow or Principal Research Fellow_CRE AUD Brisbane 4000
