Base salary of $119,285 - $155,582 per annum + management allowance + superannuation + salary packaging benefits About the Centre for Health and Other Complex Systems Research (CHOCS)This is an exciting and unique opportunity to contribute to the establishment and development of Menzies’ new cross divisional Centre for Health and Other Complex Systems Research.  The Centre seeks to traverse traditional disciplinary boundaries and sustain and grow Menzies’ health service and workforce research programs while extending these methods to non-health sectors, including education, environment, economic and justice and welfare domains.The Centre will work closely with Charles Darwin University (CDU) in the evidence-based design, implementation and evaluation of Remote Health workforce initiatives. It will also work in partnership with health and human service providers to facilitate, document and evaluate data-driven system improvements. These activities will have national and international relevance. About the role Reporting into the Deputy Director of Research, the Research and Program Lead will develop and establish a Centre for Health and Other Complex Systems Research. The Centre will sustain and grow Menzies’ health service and workforce research and extend these methods to non-health sectors. This will include studies of the common drivers of outcomes in education, environmental, economic and criminal justice domains.The position will be based in Alice Springs. This location and presence is important for promoting the work of the Centre and for research capability development and leadership in Central Australia. Under exceptional circumstances, Menzies will consider the position being based elsewhere in the NT.With other senior staff in Alice Springs and Darwin, the Research and Program Lead will engage with key stakeholders including the Central Australian Academic Health Sciences Network, Top End Partners, Central Australia and Top End Health Services, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and policy-makers. This engagement will be formalised through the establishment of an appropriate advisory group which will inform the priorities of the Centre. The incumbent will also seek to strengthen and maintain a national multi-institutional health services research collaboration and will represent their work program, and Menzies, at relevant Northern Territory, national and international forums. What you will bring to the roleAs someone with an exceptional record of research achievements that will enhance Menzies’ research capacity, including demonstrated high quality research outputs, excellent leadership skills, success in attracting competitive research funding and strong research collaborations and partnerships, you will also have:A research PhD or equivalent qualifications and relevant remote and/or rural health or human services research experience.The demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from various educational, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, including excellent cross-cultural awareness and skills in community engagement involving Aboriginal communities.Evidence of leadership in significant projects, including building teams and an ability to foster academic achievements in others, and an ability to identify new opportunities for research.To be appointed at Academic Level D, you will also have national and international recognition of your contribution to research, have demonstrated research impact on health policy and practice, have broad experience of research across a range of areas including management of research, research policy and research governance as well as having established high level collaborative partnerships with relevant remote and rural research leaders across Australia. Why MenziesMenzies is one of Australia’s leading medical research institutes dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and a leader in global and tropical research into life-threatening illnesses.
