Lead Radiographer – Local Position, Menzies, Dili, Timor-Leste

Menzies has an office in Dili, Timor-Leste with around 40 Timorese and expatriate staff employed in-country, supporting the delivery of capacity-building and research projects. A number of projects are being conducted through the office under a Memorandum of Understanding between Menzies and the Ministry of Health. SUMMARY OF POSITION:The National Tuberculosis (TB) Prevalence Survey (NTPS) Lead Radiographer will provide technical leadership around the use of x-ray screening equipment, systems and processes which are used to carry out the NTPS. The NTPS primarily aims to estimate the prevalence of bacteriologically confirmed pulmonary TB among the adult population (aged > 15 years) in Timor-Leste in 2022. It will achieve this through large-scale TB screening in randomly selected clusters across Timor-Leste. The NTPS will include chest X-ray screening of all eligible participants, using ultra-portable digital X-ray equipment and computer aided diagnostic (CAD) software. The Lead Radiographer will train field team staff in use of digital X-ray equipment for chest X-ray and provide ongoing technical assistance, support and supervision to field staff. The Lead Radiographer may also support other activities related to the implementation of mobile digital X-ray use for TB case finding in Timor-Leste. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide training and technical expertise to the project team on the use of X-ray screening, including equipment, systems and processes.Work with the Field Coordinator, investigator team, Technical Working Group and other stakeholders to coordinate planning and implementation of the X-ray screening component of the NTPSLiaise with the project team to develop study resources, including training materials, standard operating procedures and other survey materials related to X-ray screening.Support logistical aspects of X-ray screening implementation, including procurement, set-up, handling and transport of X-ray equipment.Provide pre-survey training to survey teams and radiography staff on the use of X-ray equipment, as well as ongoing supervision and monitoring of teams.Maintain oversight of the use of Menzies radiography equipment in the field to ensure safe handling and operation of the equipment and ensure routine maintenance and calibration of the equipment is undertaken as required.Any other duties as reasonably required by the supervisor, project leads or Country Manager. SELECTION CRITERIA: Essential:Relevant tertiary qualification in radiography and authority to practice as a radiographer in Timor-Leste.High-level technical expertise and clinical skills in radiography service provisionExperience providing training and supportive supervision of other health workers.Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in English and Tetum.Initiative, good judgement and strong problem-solving skills.Flexibility and ability to work well in a team.Good time management skills, with ability to work efficiently while maintaining accuracy and quality.An understanding and awareness of relevant Workplace Health and Safety as well as Equal Opportunity principles and legislation along with a commitment to maintaining a healthy and safe workplace for all Menzies staff, students, volunteers and visitors Desirable:Experience conducting community-based X-ray screening projects would be an advantage.Experience with use of portable digital X-ray equipment and Computer Assisted Diagnostic (CAD) software/systems.
