National TB Prevalence Survey Project Coordinator

Our aim is to find meaningful and relevant ways to improve the health of people in our region.Menzies has an office in Dili, Timor-Leste with around 40 Timorese and expatriate staff employed in-country, supporting the delivery of capacity-building and research projects. A number of projects are being conducted through the office under a Memorandum of Understanding between Menzies and the Ministry of Health.   SUMMARY OF POSITION:A project to strengthen diagnosis and surveillance of infectious diseases (MATCH TL) includes a National Tuberculosis (TB) Prevalence Survey (NTPS) for Timor-Leste. The NTPS Project Coordinator will provide overall coordination for the NTPS, from planning through to implementation. The aims of the NTPS are:To estimate the prevalence of bacteriologically confirmed pulmonary TB among the adult population (aged > 15 years) in Timor-Leste in 2022.To update all population-based estimates of the burden of disease using results from the prevalence survey in combination with in-depth surveillance and programmatic data and other survey data.To provide a baseline for future measurement of trends in the burden of disease caused by TB.To identify the extent to which people with TB or those with symptoms suggestive of pulmonary TB have already sought care from health-care providers and, if so, which types of care provider.With secondary objectives:To find a treat additional cases of TB within the population.To enhance country capacity for active case finding through scaling-up use of GeneXpert and mobile digital X-ray.The Coordinator will supervise other project staff involved in the NTPS and will coordinate logistics, approvals and reporting for the study, in conjunction with the MATCH TL Project Coordinator. SELECTION CRITERIA:Essential: Tertiary qualification in health or health research related field, or equivalent experience.Experience in research project coordination in Timor-LesteUnderstanding of research approvals processes in Timor-Leste.Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in English and Tetum.Flexibility and ability to work well in a team.Good time management skills, with ability to work efficiently while maintaining accuracy and quality.Willingness to learn, continuously improve and respond positively to feedback and supervision.Ability to manage sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.Initiative, good judgement and strong problem-solving skills.An understanding and awareness of relevant Workplace Health and Safety as well as Equal Opportunity principles and legislation along with a commitment to maintaining a healthy and safe workplace for all Menzies staff, students, volunteers and visitors Desirable:Experience working in TB projects and working alongside the National TB Program in Timor-Leste would be an advantage.  Closing date:   5th December 2021 To apply for this position, please refer to http://careers.menzies.edu.au/  and select / click on the National TB Prevalence Survey (NTPS) Project Coordinator - Local Position Menzies, Dili, Timor-Leste role.
