Project Officer

 Full-time (1.0 FTE), Fixed Term Contract until December 2023Based in Darwin  Are you passionate about health research and would like to support and advocate for meaningful engagement within Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander communities?  If this sounds like you, join our team to help make a difference. Your new role:Menzies is looking for a Project Officer to support workforce development in conjunction with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander initiatives. The Biyamarr ma team supports and advocates for meaningful engagement of research within Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander communities through a variety of strategic relationships and engagement opportunities with key stakeholders.The Project Officer will undertake specific projects, coordinate and support the delivery and implementation of projects including the Reconciliation Action Plan, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment and Career Development Strategy 2022 - 2026, and the Strategic Workforce Plan 2022 - 2026.The role will provide administrative and secretariat support, ie minute taking, Agenda items, photocopying in relation to working groups and committees being coordinated through the Biyamarr ma unit. It will also develop and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders, both internal and external to Menzies School of Health Research to achieve outcomes.   What you will bring to the role:You will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues impacting on the employment and retention of Aboriginal people and the ability to apply this knowledge to deliver improved outcomes.You also possess:A Degree with relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.High level interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders within a multi-disciplinary and multicultural work environment.The ability to project manage and undertake multiple tasks to deliver results in a timely and efficient manner by providing financial, policy and planning support and setting up monitoring/reporting mechanisms.Demonstrated capacity to work independently without direct supervision and maintain good organisational and time management skills to undertake a range of project management, reporting and liaison activities of this position.Excellent computing skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and internet searching skills. Why Menzies:Menzies is one of Australia’s leading medical research institutes dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and a leader in global and tropical research into life-threatening illnesses.
