Part-time (60% FTE) fixed term contractBased in Darwin This position is designated for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people only About MenziesAs one of Australia’s leading medical research institutes dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of Indigenous Australians, and a leader in global and tropical research into life-threatening illnesses, Menzies School of Health Research continues to translate its research into effective partnerships and programs in communities across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.About the position:This position is part of the Promoting Echocardiographic Diagnosis of Rheumatic heart disease Opportunities (PEDRO) team in the Global and Tropical Health Division at Menzies. The successful candidate will work closely with the training and research projects, focused on improving access to early echocardiographic diagnosis of RHD.Within PEDRO there is the "Two Hearts Beat" Study which is a prospective interventional study that aims to improve the antenatal detection and subsequent care for women with rheumatic heart disease and the "NEARER SCAN" study which incorporates echocardiographic screening into routine care. The Research Assistant / Project Coordinator will:The successful candidate will work closely with communities, healthcare workers, general practitioners, midwives, and sonographers participating in the Two Hearts Beat and NEARER SCAN studies. They will undertake procedures relevant to the research project in accordance with the Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.This role may involve travel to recruitment sites outside of Darwin up to six times per year, for 5 days at a time in order to maintain regular communication with recruitment sites, researchers and stakeholders in the Northern Territory and Western Australia. What you will bring to the role:You will have a relevant tertiary qualification with at least four years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training. You will also have an interest in and the ability to undertake research in a cross-cultural context and be able to undertake work in a professional, ethical, flexible and culturally sensitive manner.
