Part-time (40-60% FTE), fixed- term contract until 31 December 2021About MenziesAs one of Australia’s leading medical research institutes dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of Indigenous Australians, and a leader in global and tropical research into life-threatening illnesses, Menzies School of Health Research continues to translate its research into effective partnerships and programs in communities across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.About the position:The Live Strong COVID-safe Frailty Free after Starting Dialysis (Live Strong) Project is funded by APPRISE – Ramsay First Nations COVID-19 Grants.  The project has partnered with the Top End Renal Service’s New Start Dialysis Transition Program (NSDTP).  The NSDTP offers multi-disciplinary health assessment and care planning, transport support, physiotherapy assessment and restorative care, and health education for adults in the Darwin and Palmerston region who have recently started dialysis care. The Live Strong project objectives includes evaluation of aspects of the NSDTP.Under the broad direction of the Principal Investigator, supported by the Live Strong Study Patient Reference Group, Investigator Group, and study Project Coordinator this position will lead the qualitative research component of the evaluation, seeking feedback on NSDTP activities including coordinated and integrated care, cultural safety, decision making and service navigation, and contribute to related project management tasks.The (Senior) Research Officer will:Establish and maintain effective partnerships and knowledge exchange with key stakeholders.Conduct individual and group interviews with participants, staff, renal care staff, and other stakeholders.Collate, code and analyse interview data, field notes and program documents.Create original contributions towards the research and academic endeavors with limited supervision.Contribute to and/ or lead the writing of reports, academic publications and policy briefs.Manage and monitor progress of nominated project activities and outputs of the projects to ensure high quality and timely delivery of project goals, contractual obligations, and reporting.In collaboration with the Live Strong Project Coordinator, complete necessary related project and administrative tasks as required, including preparation and submission of Ethics applications and amendments.Work collaboratively with all project team members: project leaders and other project staff, Expert Advisory Group members and local research assistants and interpreters.Participate in appropriate capacity building and knowledge exchange/research translation activitiesDemonstrate through work practices and behaviour an understanding and awareness of volunteers and visitors.Additional responsibilities for appointment at Academic Level B:Create independent and original contributions towards the research and academic endeavours.Contribute to the development of new priorities and strategic research directions, including the submission of grant proposals.Supervise or co-supervise research staff and postgraduate research students working on relevant projects involving data collection and/or analysis, interpretation and translation. The successful applicant will have:Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent qualifications or research experience, or an equivalent combination of tertiary qualification and relevant research experience in a science discipline.Experience in qualitative research that demonstrates relevant methodological rigour and expertise.Demonstrated well developed writing skills that have resulted in peer-reviewed publications and high-level reports.Demonstrated understanding of ethical considerations of research and a high level of discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information and material.Highly developed interpersonal skills and attributes with ability to interact effectively in a culturally responsive manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people from diverse range of cultures.Demonstrated strong verbal communication, negotiation and liaison skills in a cross-cultural setting.Demonstrated ability to present research findings in a clear and engaging way to academic, professional and community audiences.Demonstrated organisational skills, with ability to take initiative and problem solve, work under pressure and prioritise in order to meet tight deadlines and achieve results.Demonstrated ability to work effectively under broad direction as part of a multidisciplinary team and in collaboration with others.Excellent computer skills including demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office software, online literature and reference databases and data analysis software, and various other workplace software programs. Additional Selection Criteria for appointment at Academic Level B:A PhD or equivalent postgraduate qualification with a record of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of qualifications and relevant research experience using qualitative methods.Extensive experience in qualitative research and/or project evaluation and monitoring which demonstrates a strong track record, relevant methodological rigour and expertise.Demonstrated highly developed writing skills, including the ability to achieve tight deadlines, which has resulted in publications, conference papers, high level reports or professional or technical contributions which give evidence of research ability.Desirable:Demonstrated understanding of NT health care systems related to chronic non-communicable conditions.Established work-based relationships with people and organisations in NT renal
