ABOUT MENZIES:As one of Australia’s leading medical research institutes dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, and a leader in global and tropical research into life-threatening illnesses, Menzies School of Health Research continues to translate its research into effective partnerships and programs in communities across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:The Communication and Engagement Officer promotes the WMP’s vision within communities in Dili by liaising, networking and coordinating a range of information and engagement activities. The position develops and maintains relationships with a range of local interest groups, engagement partners, builds the local knowledge base, and disseminates information. SELECTION CRITERIA:1. Qualifications:An undergraduate qualification in Communication area, community development, public relation, Computer Science, or any relevant field1-2 years’ experience in Community Engagement and marketing2. Essential Criteria:Proven ability to engage and work cooperatively and constructively within local communities, including operational hands-on capacity in community-based settings and experience conducting group presentations, in-person interviews, focus and reference groups, community displays and public meetings.Demonstrated experience with graphic design software, video production, photography, and media relations Ability to work as an effective member of a team as well as independently under routine supervisionGood organizational and time management skills, including the ability to perform tasks to meet deadlines and maintain accuracy and consistencySound interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to problem solve issues in response to changing work environments and demands, negotiate, provide advice and liaise with a wide range of individuals and agencies.Computer literacy and ability to quickly adapt to and learn new systems Excellent oral and written communication skills in Tetun. Having sufficient proficiency in English is preferred. Knowledge of the release area would be an advantage.3.
