Molecular Epidemiologist

If this sounds like you, join our team to help make a difference. About the role:Menzies is looking for a PhD qualified Molecular Epidemiologist who has demonstrated experience conducting population genetic or epidemiological analyses of large genetic or genomic data sets.The successful applicant will work alongside local collaborators in the ACREME network, and international collaborators at Harvard and Oxford University. They will use Menzies unique collection of P. vivax genomes from bespoke clinical trials across Asia and Africa, and apply genomic epidemiology methods to characterise recurrent infection, and to explore the biology and epidemiology of relapse events. They will also work with our local laboratory teams to incorporate markers of newly discovered adaptations into our P. vivax genotyping barcodes with the aim of building in-country capacity to genotype isolates at our partner sites.Applicants appointed at a higher level will also be encouraged to develop independent research projects within the broader P. vivax molecular program, lead publications as a senior author, and lead the submission of grant proposals. What you will bring to the role: You will be an enthusiastic professional with PhD qualifications (or equivalent post graduate qualifications) in a relevant field with demonstrated relevant experience.You will have demonstrated competence with coding in either R, python, perl or similar coding language in addition to experience with software and databases for analyzing massively parallel sequencing data.  For appointment at a higher level you will also have experience developing and maintaining a profile of scholarly publications and developing funding applications for research projects from a variety of sources. Why MenziesMenzies is one of Australia’s leading medical research institutes dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and a leader in global and tropical research into life-threatening illnesses.
