Be part of an exciting opportunity!Menzies School of Health Research is looking to engage a Research Fellow to join a dynamic multi-institutional team working to bring about improvements in Aboriginal health in remote and rural Australia.The Research Fellow will mainly work on a MRFF funded project (Medical Research Future Fund) that is exploring the impact of extreme environmental conditions on primary health care utilisation in central Australia. The project aims to generate an evidence base on the impact of exposure to extreme heat on primary health care service utilisation in Central Australia.This evidence will inform the collaborative development of adaptation strategies by communities and the primary health care sector to reduce the impacts of extreme temperatures on health outcomes.The main duties of the Research Fellow involve:Develop and maintain strong links with partnering organisations.Conduct high quality research as a member of a multi-institutional research team.Supervise or co-supervise and guide more junior research staff and higher degree by research students involved in the same research projects.Assist with writing of conference and seminar papers and manuscripts to be published as research papers in high quality peer reviewed journals.Develop ethics applications, ethics reports and ethics amendments, as required, and write reports for stakeholders and funding bodies. What we would like you to bring to the roleExceptional verbal and written communication skills, sound interpersonal and negotiation skills, self-confidence, and the ability to interact effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds, particularly with an understanding of how to work successfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations. Other ideal qualities:Completion of a PhD or considerable progress towards completion of a PhD or equivalent qualification and a record of scholarly or professional achievement.Demonstrated capacity to develop, manage and lead research projects including experience in team management and management expertise.Proven ability to make significant and original high-quality contributions to research through activities such as quality publications and external grant acquisition that expand knowledge and practice in the discipline.Highly developed quantitative data analysis skills, particularly analysis of health outcome data.Demonstrated understanding of ethical considerations of research and a high level of discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information and material.
